I was watching a special on the Travel channel, it was something like "Forbes top 11 indulgent foods", where it counted down the most fancy, decadent, expensive foods in the world. Among this list was a desert in a fancy restaurant in Istanbul, Turkey.
This...is a GOLD cake. And that's not just a fancy food coloring. That's REAL gold. 24k gold to be exact. And as you would expect, that little slice is $1000. It's called the Sultan's Golden Cake, and it's pretty much something out of an ancient king's ridiculous menu.
Yeah, this pissed me off a bit. I mean, really? A cake covered in gold? Is that really necessary? Is gold tasty? Its a fucking mineral. I thought it was just decoration too, but I think they actually eat the gold. WHY?! But yeah, this is why I have no respect for the wealthy. That sort of money can feed a small third world village for years, but rich people can just mosey over to a restaurant and throw it away on a fucking cake.
So to the wealthy, 1%....

Yes, I haven't updated in weeks. My average pageviews have definitely taken a huge dip. As usual, real life is taking a toll on my blogging. School work, demanding girlfriend and what not. Anyway, I've decided to post because I've fallen in love. Not with a person, but with MATERIAL (the best thing in the world).
Every now and then, I'll have a thing that I want more than anything in the world, and I focus everything in my life towards that thing so I can get it. A few years back it was the PS3, and I got that little bastard. But now, its something several times more expensive. Ready....its the MACBOOK AIR.
Now before you barrage me with insults, let me tell you that I don't know anyone who hated on Mac's as much as mwah. But this little machine is just too sleak to ignore. My laptop is really old (pushing 4 years), and it's getting to that time where I have to start looking for a replacement. As a traveling college student, I need something I can carry around campus, back home, and to class everyday. So obviously, I've been looking into this new line of "ultra portables". Unfortunately, there really aren't that many choices out there at this time.
As much as I hate the Mac OS, there really isn't anything that comes close to the Macbook Air in terms of power, speed, and sexiness. I have taken notice of the Samsung Series 9, but its very expensive and still doesn't quite beat the Air. So yeah, time to start pushing all of my finances towards affording this monstrous Apple product.

Steve Jobs Was a Great Man, Not God
The biggest news as of late is obviously the death of Steve Jobs. Now, I respected this man greatly and acknowledge all of the incredible contributions he's made to society. However, it scares me to see where people seem to place their values. Society worshiped this man for giving them iPhone's and Macbooks, and yet no one seems to even think about the scientists, doctors, mathematicians, engineers, and artists that have been contributing to society and dying for centuries.
I understand that it's perfectly understandable for the current generation to know only about Steve Jobs; the Apple brand almost defines the times. But that's exactly what's wrong here. What was the front page news, the top head line, the most popular google search, the most repeated tweet and Facebook status, and the latest internet meme in the past 3 days. It's like Steve was our God. I remember former presidents dying in the past few years, and that news never lasted more than a few hours.
I'm not breaking new ground here; everyone already knows that we worship celebrities and place our values on meaningless things. I guess it just took this death to realize just how far it has ingrained itself in our culture.

R/C Helicopter - Syma S107G

Man, I just turned 20 but I gotta say, remote-controlled helicopters are fun as hell. I've been wanting one for a long time, so I went ahead and bought one that was cheap and highly recommended. Searching through countless products, I gotta say, there's no better chopper than the Syma S107. I'm no expert on RC helicopters, but I've tried a few other models, and this one is almost flawless and flies great.
Again, I'm no expert so I'm not about to turn this into a review. I just want to say, I could definitely get into this hobby. Flying RC helicopters is no kid's hobby, these things are definitely adult toys. Most of the other models on sale are extraordinarily more expensive than the S107, so I'm going to need a lot of money as usual~

Playin Pokemon White

Yeah, been busy playing the new Pokemon White. As usual, the original formula is still pretty much intact with several minor new features and little changes here and there. And of course, the graphics have improved and are very impressive. Buildings are pretty much fully 3D this time around, and the Pokemon sprites during battle are fully animated (finally).
There's nothing particularly interesting to mention, but just like series like God of War, its better to leave a formula that works. It's still the same Pokemon we've all grown to love, and its still fun. The new handful of Pokemon are interesting, but none of the new designs are particularly good. In fact, they've gotten a bit strange and unimaginative, especially compared to the older generations.
Finally, I thought I'd add: the girl character is waay cooler than the boy character. Normally it was just a given to choose the male, but this new "Hilda" design is definitely more appealing. I've actually chosen her for my first playthrough. Its interesting because a lot of other gamers and reviewers have had similar opinions about the player characters. But yeah, that's pretty much all there is to Pokemon White!

I'm sick of this disparity

I just recently got back into blogging after almost a half year absence, and I've got to say...I'm amazed at how fast I'm being turned away by it again. Months ago, Ngee Khiong officially ended his blog citing reasons related to the progression of the Gundam community. I was a little confused by his reasons, but I think I'm beginning to understand.
Personally, I'm sick of this disparity between the old, Gundam embracing generation of fans, and the newer, younger fans. The first group is a group of long-time fans that often prefer the Universal Century timeline, and have a wider view of the Gundam series as a whole. The second group...is basically the teenagers who happen upon the very latest Gundam series and become new fans. This new group is incredibly troubling (and to me, very annoying) because the latest series have degraded into shounen action anime's similar to the likes of Naruto and Bleach. The fans they attract are the same mindless children that argue about "KAKASHI IZ SOOO MUCH BETTER THAN SASUGAAYYY" on online forums.
You can just imagine how idiotic the discussions can get. It began with Gundam Seed, when new fans were the majority, and all they could talk about was Kira and the Freedom Gundam. Then it moved over to 00 Gundam, with the magic Trans-Am powerups and innovators. I make my Gundam Top 5 posts to share my love for the long rich history Gundam has had over its decades old run, but all I run into is "WHAT ABOUT 00 GUNDAM AND ITS GIANT STRONGER THAN EVERYTHING WEAPONZ" comments. I can't keep this up if the trend is just "make it bigger, flashier, and more magical than the last show".
This disparity will continue if the trend continues like this, and I'll likely keep ignoring the new bullshit powerups that keep showing up in newer series. I'm not going to sell out and add things from the latest series just to appease the younger fans who only know how to appreciate the only series they've watched. That's all I really have to say...

Just got my new Playstation 3 Slim yesterday! It's the 120gb model, which I hear is being discontinued soon in favor of a newer 160gb version that's coming out soon. I really don't need all that memory really, I'm fine with 120gb and I can always upgrade the hard drive.
I'm trying not to play it right now because we only have standard def TV's in the house right now, and we're about to get a 55inch HD TV tomorrow. Let me tell you this right now: YOU CANNOT PLAY NEXT GEN CONSOLES WITH AN SD TV. The graphics are too powerful for older TV's. First of all, text is not well defined so it is extremely blurry and very hard to read. The graphics are also too detailed, and all of that is condensed so it does not look nearly as good as it should and it is very hard to see everything. This is common knowledge really, but its just a heads up to anyone thinking of buying a PS3/360.
So, the only game I have so far is Final Fantasy XIII. I'm aware of all the controversy and mixed reviews its gotten by fans, and after playing about 7 hours in I'm totally understood all the complaints. I'm going to write a review for it soon, but seriously, its just been a rail-shooter the whole time. Its starting to pick up since combat has gotten more fun, I can further develop characters and weapons, and the story is picking up. I haven't been totally disappointed, but it still hasn't impressed me yet either. We'll see...

First Impression: NDS Lite

I've been playing the hell out of my DS lately, as I've stated before. I got basically every notable game on the system, and I've just been swinging back and forth on all of them. Though, the game I've spent the most time on so far is Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. This game is bloody brilliant! I've always been iffy about touch controls, but using the stylus for all the gameplay has never been so fun, even compared to all the other DS games. This game made me fall in love with the touch controls immediately.
On a separate note, let me just say the Acekard 2 with its AKAIO firmware is probably the best flash cart on the market. It's considerably cheaper than some equally impressive alternatives, and the AKAIO firmware has the best compatibility out of anything so far. It's also incredibly easy to use (just drag onto your microSD and you're set), and the interface can be customized with downloadable skins. It made my experience so much more clean-cut.
The touch controls are brilliant and the games are great, but I obviously have some complaints. The D-pad on the DS Lite is awful; it feels very loose and the diagonals are incredibly weak. It's very hard to move freely with the D-pad, and really holds back your ability to move during gameplay. Also, being a Sony guy and an owner of a PSP, I couldn't help but compare its hardware specs to the PSP. I love the style of graphics in games like Final Fantasy IV and Phantom Hourglass, but I just felt like something was missing. I'm used to the powerful visuals on the PSP, and the higher quality audio. The DS makes up for it with its own ingenuity (which is why its sold so much better), but the PSP still holds a place in my heart and will probably remain the better system in my book.
And here's Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for the PSP. I love the cute graphical direction of Final Fantasy IV, so I'm not complaining about its graphics in the least. Crisis Core has some very impressive visuals for a handheld game, and clearly demonstrates the PSP's graphical superiority. It's unfair to compare the two, but you can see why it might be a weird transition.

Work sucks

I'm in one of those phases again where I don't feel like updating my blog for extended periods of time. Bare with me though, the summer is making me lazy. I've been pretty preoccupied with all the DS games I've missed out on over the years, and I've got a job too.
Yeah...work sucks. I'm a waiter at a Korean restaurant near my town, and I fucking hate it. I could bare with it if it were a less regular thing, but I made the mistake of telling them I'm free all week when I first asked if they were hiring. Now they think they can call me in whenever they want to, and I freaking don't want to obviously. The hours are ridiculous. I'm a part-time student, why would I need to work 12 hours a day? I'm not paying any bills, I don't even need this much money to go out and shit it all away. I'll do 3 to 4 days a week, 8 hours tops. I'm about to tell them this, but I'm waiting to see when the best time to complain is.
Seriously though, 10am to 10pm? The fact that it's tiring isn't even the worst part. The worst part is, I get home around 10:30pm, which is after my parents have gone to sleep. This means I can't even see my family for the entire day. I don't even have time to myself cause I'm too tired to stay awake for much longer. I put myself on call like this cause I thought acquiring a job these days would be difficult. Now that I have TOO much work, I regret it. First things first I guess: I need to ask for a set schedule each week and I really want to go home earlier.
If any of you had a shittier part-time job, please share. Right now, I'm thinking 12 hours a day is just ridiculous. I work longer than my parents for fuck sakes.

Yeah, I haven't updated in awhile have I. I'm having a bit of writer's block, and I found a job recently so I'll probably have less and less time to make original posts. Meanwhile...
Check out this amazing fan made Street Fighter film. It's been the talk of the gaming community recently, mostly because it's so much better than all the crap Hollywood has shat out. Featuring talented martial artists and some decent special effects, this thing shouts Street Fighter more than anything with Kristen Kreuk in it.

Like I said, I've made my own Master Grade wishlist, which is basically a list of Mobile Suits that would really like to get Master Grade models made for them. And who knows, some of these might possibly get the MG treatment in the near future. Considering how popular some of them are, its definitely not impossible. I recently saw a dream come true with the Wing Gundam getting a MG, so hope is still gleaming.
Also, I want to know some of your own wishlists, so share them if you'd like!

1. Gundam Heavyarms Customs
------------------------------------
It's a fan favorite, everybody wants it and Bandai knows it. What's taking so long Bandai? This beauty of a Gundam debuted in the Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz OVA, and has been praised for its dark appearance and overkill arsenal of weapons. The 1/100 no grade was good for its time, but its aged badly and really in need of a Master Grade. Possibility of a future release? Slim but existent.
-------------------------
2. Wing Gundam Zero
-------------------------
And speaking of Gundam Wing, where is the Master Grade for the original Wing Zero design? Sure, the Endless Waltz Wing Zero was impressive but this design deserves some justice too! It's predecessor got the MG treatment quite recently, maybe the Zero will follow shortly? Speaking of which, here's what I believe is a modified work built from the MG Wing Gundam (according to Ngee Khiong)
Excuse my fangasm but that looks bloody incredible. It's just as a Master Grade should look like. Use this mod and get working Bandai!
------------------------
3. Gundam X/Divider
------------------------
Gundam X, the anime and the Gundam, is so underrated. I've always liked this design, and I really think they should treat this main Gundam with a little more respect. The Gundam X Divider always holds a place in my heart because the 1/144 model of it was my very first Gundam model. The moment I add the MG to my collection, I'm just going to feel so complete. And you may have noticed that I included both versions of the GX; well that's because I think parts for both versions can be included in one big kit. It may cost a little extra, but its definitely worth it.
------------------------
4. Akatsuki Gundam
------------------------
Look how fucking shiny it is! That's the 1/144 scale model you're seeing up there by the way. The main appeal of this Gundam is its gold plating, and who wouldn't a shining Master Grade of the Akatsuki? It's such a must in my book.
--------------
5. Tallgeese
--------------
Gundam Wing had some great designs, too bad they never got to making any Master Grades for them (Wing Gundam got one JUST now). The closest we have to a view of a MG Tallgeese is a work from fitchenfoo.net, image posted above. Looks amazing, doesn't it? I've always respected the Tallgeese and I love its white, simple design. The day Tallgeese gets MG treatment, I'm throwing a party. I swear.

I thought I'd dedicate a post to appreciate the god-send that is ramyun noodles. For those of you that have been living under a rock for the last few decades (though even cavemen would have several packets of Ramyun), ramyun noodles are a Korean brand of instant noodles. Many people confuse ramyun with ramen, which is actually a Japanese noodle dish that probably influenced the creation of ramyun. There are many different types of ramyun, from seafood to mild, but my favorite is the definitely the hot and spicy Shin Ramyun.
Shin Ramyun is the most popular brand of ramyun in Korea, and probably amongst the Korean population in America as well. The bowl and cup noodle versions of it have been so useful to me in college, where instant ramyun is incredibly useful in a time-pinch. That's definitely why its so popular amongst students and young, busy workers.
Though of course, as everyone knows, ramyun is amazingly lacking in any nutritional value and contains some crappy ingredients like Monosodium Glutamate (MSG). It's no wonder it tastes so good. So, I recommend that you eat ramyun very rarely (like maybe once every other week), and when you do you can add vegetables and eggs with a side of kimchi to make it a little more nutritional for you.
But these instant noodles are freaking delicious, with its hot and spicy flavor and hot, soothing soup. I might have an addiction to these noodles right now, so I better watch out though. Damn chemicals...

The two best things to put in your shin ramyun are eggs and kimchi. I ALWAYS put eggs in my ramyun, it slightly dulls the spicy taste but makes it sweet and more flavorful, mostly thanks to the delicious egg yolk. My method is to put the egg in on the last minute of cooking, and as soon as the egg drops you have to break the yolk and mix it around to make sure it merges with the soup. Kimchi is not normally put into the ramyun, its actually a side dish. It almost seems like kimchi was destined to go with shin ramyun because its fresh and spicy taste compliments the ramyun REALLY well. You absolutely cannot eat ramyun without kimchi.

I really hate these inane celebrations but...Happy New Year! It's 1am, an hour after the official start of the new millennial decade. Twenty ten sure sounds futuristic doesn't it? Can't wait til it gets to four digits, like twenty thirteen. Anyway, I'm about to recap my 2009 so bare with me for a minute or two.
A lot of significant things happened in my life in 2009; some bad and some good, but all worthwhile. Thinking back, this may have been one of my more event-filled years during my teenage life. I started my year right where I left off during the winter of 2008; in an alternative high school for kids they don't think belong in a "traditional school setting". Most of you aren't aware of this, but some pretty unlucky circumstances landed me in this horrible setting for a few months. Looking back, I'm amazed at how well I endured those cold winter months in that run-down catholic parish. Honestly though, it wasn't all that bad. The kids were troubled and unmotivated, but they certainly weren't out of control; in fact they were pretty friendly people. They were just teenagers after all.
The only thing keeping me down was my yearning to return to my original high school, where I had already spent my freshman, sophomore, and junior years at. Friends constantly asked when I would return, and I constantly questioned the board of education so I could find out if I could return any time soon.Surely enough, after several letters and numerous visits to a psychiatrist, who I was recommended to use for a recommendation letter, I received a faithful call from the Superintendent of my school system. I was finally headed back to my original school. This was in the middle of the school day, so I ended up telling everyone at the alternative school. To my surprise, everybody there congratulated me and said their farewells. That confirmed to me that they really were normal kids who really just deserved more attention.
To this day, I still resent the school systems for their careless handling of my case. More than anything else, I was morally disappointed at how weak the local school systems were against government powers. They were completely at the mercy of the 'Zero tolerance' policy, and I was their unlucky victim. I guess in the end, the board of education came to their senses and slipped me back through a government blind-spot. Someday, I'll redeem my dignity from the school system, and bring this ill-conceived alternative program some sensible reform. That is a goal I'm looking to see to in my life. I wonder...how those kids are doing...
All the effort I put into getting myself back to my original school had paid off, and I was going to finish off my senior year in my hometown. I want to take this time to thank my vice principal, Mr.E. It was him who spent a bunch of his time talking to the principal and the superintendent in order to get me back. Without his help, I may not have made it back. Thank you.
Anyway, I had some happy reunions with my school mates, went to prom, had my last night with the class of '09 at an arcade, and graduated. I turned 18 a little after that, and had an incredibly boring summer. I think most of my summer was spent just preparing my mind for college. I still remember how nervous I was about moving away from home and going to college. Looking back, I'm pretty surprised at how well I transitioned into college life. My first semester at college was great; workload was minimal at best and I made some incredible friends. I was never the type to hang around with a group of friends because throughout high school, I had a best friend whom I hung out with almost all of the time. College was a plethora of new experiences for me. Hopefully, this can continue for the years to come.
I don't do resolutions because I'm a lazy asshole, but I just hope I figure myself out this year. What I mean by that is, I want to find out what my true passions are. A lot of people have dreams and plans for their futures, but I still don't fully see my future. I think my passions are in little pieces, and 2010 is the year for me to put them together. During 2009, I found that my greatest academic ability was writing. Writing is how I spend my free time, and how I express my beliefs. I guess that is how I honed my abilities. That was just a recent realization, but since childhood I have had a thing for comedy. I spent much of my childhood drawing comics, and it became something I identified myself with. With a combination of both, I would probably enjoy getting into writing for television or animation. Just a thought though...
I'm probably boring you with my life story here, so I'll just end on this note: don't make resolutions if you aren't going to fulfill them. Assholes.

I was checking my visitor stats on my statcounter account (I was bored damn it) and I noticed some very interesting things.
For those of you who do not know what statcounter is, it is a website that records and logs your website or blog's hits and # of unique visitors and the like. It has many features, like showing you where the visitor came from, what pages they were on, how long they were on them, and what city and country they reside in. Try it for yourself at statcounter.com (your welcome).
First of all, I've noticed a very high percentage of my visitors are some south east Asia. I've noticed that southern Asian countries are quite into Gundam modeling, but I didn't expect to see them visiting my blog. Amazingly, only about 35% of my visitors are American. About 10 percent is from Europe and Canada, and another 10 percent is spread around the globe, but the rest of the percentages are owed to south east Asian countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines. The Philippines are a whopping 16.80%. I'm aware that most of these countries are english speaking countries, so I guess it shouldn't be a surprise to me. Everyday, several hundred of my pageviews are owed solely to these south east Asian countries. Well then, let me take this time to say...

Welcome!
And now a specific discovery. I shouldn't disclose too much information, but I won't be revealing anything private so whatever. One of my visitors got to my website from...THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS. The incredible library located in Washington D.C. that has a collection of over 30,000,000 books and contains unfathomable amounts of important American government history. Considering how important this library is, only members of the United States Congress, their staff, Supreme Court Justices, and certain government officials are allowed to access the entirety of the library and check out books. Members of the public can only look around.

Regular people need a special ID card to access the parts of the library that matter (like the one above), so I'm guessing computers with internet access are located in special resource rooms as well. I highly doubt someone would take a lengthy trip to the Library of Congress and obtain permission to access the computers just to nonchalantly search for Gunpla reviews. So am I to assume that its a member of the United States Congress? Is there a Supreme Court Justice that's secretly interested in Master Grade Gundam models? How peculiar, and somewhat flattering to be honest.

Gunpla Wishlist 2

A new and updated Gunpla wish list. I've pretty much fulfilled my previous gunpla wish-list (MG Wing Zero Custom was replaced with the Wing Ver.Ka, and the RX-78 OYW was taken off the list) so I've only got one being carried over from the old list and several new ones that are probably subject to change at any moment. I do hope to get them eventually though.
---------------------------------
MG 1/100 Unicorn Gundam
---------------------------------

Carried over from the old list, I still have my eyes on the Unicorn Gundam. It'll probably be first on my list the next time I buy a model.
------------------------------
MG 1/100 Hi-nu Gundam
------------------------------

After building the HGUC version and reading up and watching reviews of the master grade, this kit really looks quite good. Its got to be one of the best gundam model kits out right now, and worth its high price tag. Its price was what was scaring me away for awhile, but now I think I'll get it if I can save enough money for it.
------------------------------------------
MG 1/100 RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. 2.0
------------------------------------------

I'm still wanting the original Gundam in my collection, and my original plans were to get the OYW version of it, but as soon as the 2.0 came out, I fell in love with its simple retro design and amazing articulation. Reviews show that this is one of the most sophisticated models yet, so I definitely have my eyes set on this one.
-------------------------------
1/100 Heavy Arms Custom
-------------------------------

Huh? Really? Yeah, for nostalgic purposes. The Heavy Arms Custom has always been one of my favorite Gundam designs, and it was just recently that I really wanted a model of it in my collection. The 1/100 model is old and has been out of production for quite some time now, so it'll be really hard to find, but I definitely want it. It's quite a primitive model but I don't care, I just want it.

Wing Gundam complete

I recently completed construction of the MG 1/100 Wing Gundam Ver. Ka. Let me just say, it is a thing of beauty. It's definitely my favorite model so far, and totally overshadows the fact that I got the HGUC Hi-nu just a few days ago. You can expect a review in the next couple of days. For now, savor this preview...

Yukie Kawamura
I'd like to take this time to present to you, Japanese gravure model Yukie Kawamura.
She has it all, a gorgeous face, an extremely cute way of talking, and an impossibly stacked body. This is my gift to you.

My Gunpla Wish List
Labels:

I rarely ever get the chance to go out and buy Gundam models these days (there isn't a store within an hour of here), so my gunpla wish list is fulfilled REALLY slowly. I just got my 1/72 VF-25F model a few weeks ago, so at least some stuff is being crossed off the list. Anyway, here's my top 5 wanted gunpla.

I have read reviews and examined pictures of this model, and it definitely seems like a better deal than the master grade. It is better proportioned, and is said to have sturdier joints. It is also the size of a 1/100, so it gets by my avoidance of 1/144 scale models. Definitely my number one choice at the moment.
2. MG 1/100 Wing Gundam Zero Custom
I'm ashamed of myself for STILL not having got this model. I was planning on getting it years ago to replaced my aging HG 1/100 Wing Zero Custom, but other models kept getting in front of my priority listing. Hopefully I'll have it soon.
3. 1/100 Gundam Astray Red Frame
I've been trying to focus on getting Master Grades, but plenty of HG's seem to be worth getting too. This one is a surprise because it is a no grade. I've heard tons of good things about it, and something that everybody seems to agree on is that its articulation is similar to that of a master grade. That's quality stuff. Definitely a must have.
4. MG 1/100 Unicorn Gundam Ver.Ka

From what I can tell from the photos, this thing is bloody impressive, especially the destroy mode. It looks really standard when its in the "unicorn" mode, but when it opens up to reveal all those red parts, its totally eye-catching. It would be a great addition to my collection, especially for display purposes.
